Warrington Celebrates Fairtrade Award

AN INSPIRING evening was enjoyed by Fairtrade supporters from all over Warrington when they gathered together on February 8th 2011.

The national Outstanding Achievement award was presented to the Mayor in recognition of the town’s activities during Fairtrade Fortnight 2010.

Representatives from the town’s businesses, council, schools and churches, arrived at Bold Street Methodist Church to enjoy a spread of cakes and savouries made with Fairtrade ingredients.

Master of Ceremonies, Rev Stephen Kingsnorth, a founding member of Warrington’s Fairtrade Steering Group, interviewed various members of the group who shared highlights of the many campaigning activities including such events as ‘mass banana eating’. Lively presentations were also put together by Fairtrade schools Cinnamon Brow C.P. and St Stephen’s Catholic Primary, showing how they are learning about and supporting Fairtrade.

Warrington was granted ‘Fairtrade Borough’ status by the Fairtrade Foundation five years ago.

This year’s Fairtrade Fortnight begins on February 28.

So come along and support Fairtrade in Warrington at one of the many Fairtrade events that will be held in the town.
